Goldenrod has a history of use with the bladder and urinary system. The astringent and antiseptic qualities tighten and tone the urinary system and bladder.

Goldenrod may assist in reducing pain and inflammation, as a diuretic to increase urine flow, and to stop muscle spasms. It is also used for gout and joint pain, as well as topically for eczema and other skin conditions.

It is commonly included in cough medicines and can be used as a mouth rinse to treat inflammation of the mouth and throat.

It can also be applied externally for healing of wounds.
